Angry Birds Toons is a Finnish cartoon comedy series that is based on the Angry Birds franchise. It premiered on March 16 & 17 and aired from March 16, 2013, to May 13, 2016. The DVDs are currently published by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Specials

Nickelodeon has shown Angry Birds: Wreck The Halls, a Christmas special aired on December 17, 2011,[5] and Angry Birds Space, an animated prequel to the video game of the same name in March 2012.[6]

Development

Rovio had announced a TV series based on the Angry Birds video games for Q4 2012. They planned to produce 52 short (sub-3 minute) episodes.[7] The series was produced by Finnish animation studio Kombo Studios, which Rovio bought in June 2011.[8] The series was planned to have 52 episodes, with Nick Dorra, the head of animation at Rovio, said that, "I am happy to say we are going to roll out a weekly animation series this year of short format content."[9] The 1st season aired on various Angry Birds apps on March 16 and 17, 2013. They also started to release the series on DVD and Blu-Ray, starting with Season 1 Volume 1 in December 2013. In 2014, Rovio announced that Toons would have a 2nd season for the show on October 19 with 26 episodes, not like the 1st. Later in 2015, they announced a 3rd season from the series on October 1. The series has not been renewed for a 4th season and it's pretty unlikely it will have a 4th season. From 2015 - 2017, Angry Birds Toons was on Netflix.

Since Toons.TV's shutdown in 2017, most of the Angry Birds Toons episodes have been uploaded to the Angry Birds YouTube channel. The remainder of Season 3 is still being uploaded to the channel to this day. On September 13, 2022, it has been marketed and hyped by the official Angry Birds YouTube channel that 9 "unreleased episodes" of the series from Season 3 are yet to be unveiled. The episodes are scheduled for release on YouTube on September 24, 2022.[10]

Trivia

  • Hal, Stella and Silver are the only characters that did not appear in any episodes during its run, despite the former two having Toons designs (Stella was even shown in the Meet The Flock trailer) and Silver having been made during that era.
  • Bubbles only appears in Halloween-themed episodes which occur once per season, which are "Night Of The Living Pork", "Sweets of Doom", and "Porcula". Due to this, he never got to interact with the other birds.
    • He is also the only bird that appears in the Halloween episodes.
  • In the Twitter art, Bomb has a grey spot atop his head similar to how he originally had a white spot atop his head but was later removed.
  • Most episodes titles are a homage/reference/pun to other media.
  • In Brazil, the Angry Birds Cinematic Trailer was shown as an episode, titled "Coisa de Cinema" ("Movie Thing")[citation needed]
  • Angry Birds GO!, Angry Birds 2, later versions of Angry Birds Friends, and Angry Birds Reloaded share the characters' designs and sounds from Angry Birds Toons.
